KU suffers first quarterfinal loss
KU's run at a fourth straight Big 12 tournament championship came to a crashing hault on Thursday afternoon. Facing No. 9 seed Baylor in the first quarterfinal game of the day, the Jayhawks found themselves down by 17-points with 7:08 remaining in the first half. As they've done so many times this season, KU railed late and eventually took a five-point lead, 58-53, with 8:45 left in the contest, but failed to hold off the Bears. KU's 71-64 loss to Baylor marked the first time they've lost in the quarterfinals since the inception of the Big 12.
Top seed Kansas (25-7; 14-3) found itself down by 17-points, 30-13, with 7:08 remaining in the first half Thursdays first quarterfinal game against No. 9 seed Baylor (19-13; 7-11). At that point, it looked as if would be a long day for Self and the Jayhawks.
