Morris out but Auburn bashes Brown

At least on Friday night, Auburn's offense did just fine without All-American Hunter Morris, mashing 11 hits including five homeruns for an 11-2 win over Brown in the opener of a four-game series at Plainsman Park.

The Tigers took control with a 7-run first as Trent Mummey and Joseph Sanders led off the game with back-to-back solo homeruns and Brian Fletcher hit a 3-run shot over the Green Monster in left.

"I thought I was seeing the ball pretty well, especially my first at-bat," Fletcher said. "That was an exciting (inning), something electric.

"A lot of our guys are starting to step up with the bat."

Freshman Casey McElroy put the finishing touches on the big inning with a 2-run homerun over the Green Monster as AU struck for seven runs on five hits against Brown starting pitcher Will Weidig.

"I told our guys that was the best offensive approach we've had early in the game all season," AU head coach John Pawlowski said.

Fletcher added a solo homerun in the third, finishing 2-of-4 with four RBI. Sanders was 2-of-4 with his seventh homerun of the season, which is tied with Alabama's Kent Matthes for the most nationally.

Morris has missed a total of three games, including the last two, after injuring his back lifting weights approximately 10 days ago. The preseason first-team All-SEC first baseman is hitting just .214 on the season with two homeruns and six RBI.
