Auburn slams Bama for first SEC win
Auburn opened the second half with a 19-4 run as the Tigers cruised to an 85-71 win over Alabama at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum Saturday. Tay Waller led Auburn with 22 points, sinking six 3-pointers.
Auburn used a full-court trap to force five Bama turnovers in the second-half run and 20 overall, which the Tigers converted into 34 points.
"We got after them a little bit in a stretch there where we doubled them," AU head coach Jeff Lebo said. "We got a little energy going, got some transition buckets, got some steals.
"It was gigantic. To the 10-minute mark, I thought our energy was good, especially defensively. The crowd got into the game. Nothing was easy for them. They turned it over and we converted."
Waller, who came into the game shooting 22.2 percent from 3-point range in AU's two SEC losses, made his first four attempts, all from beyond the arc, and finished 6-of-8 from 3-point range.
