Commodores land Ohio DB
"Vanderbilt got interested in me through my DB coach. That was around November of last year because my DB coach had a connection with them, that's how it started."
"I got a call from Coach Fowler and I ended up talking to him and he talked about a trip. He had a trip down the school and I to meet Coach Fowler and he told me a little bit about what Vanderbilt was about as a program. After that, he set up a meeting with the DB coach, Coach Bryant. He couldn't make it the week he was supposed to make it, so he came the week after I believe.
"Me and Coach Bryant talked when he came down to visit. We Coach Fowler came down the first time, I gave him my highlight tape and a lot of film of me. Then they broke that down and they sent Coach Bryant down to meet me and I felt with Coach Bryant, we had a real good spark during our conversation.
"They ended up offering me two days after that. I was in the athletic office and Coach Johnson called, and he said that Vanderbilt was looking for DB's and I seemed like the guy the program was looking for and that's when they offered and I ended up verballing to Vanderbilt.
"The academic side played a big part, but also the conference they play in. Right now, the SEC is really a big conference and I can go to school and get a great education while also playing in one of the best conferences in the U.S. right now, that really sold me."
"Really, when I talked to Coach Bryant, he just told me more about their defense and how he liked things, what he sees me at in the future."
"I noticed that the DB core was impressive, and were very physical. When Coach Bryant was talking to me, he told me how they put in the work. They looked very skillful, though you really can't tell over television sometimes."
Offer from Miami of Ohio.
"My work ethic and my intensity on the field. You know, you're never as good as you can get. I believe I need to work on my feet and my flexibility."
Stats...I had 128 tackles, 3 KD, 2 forced fumbles, 1 FR.
"I'm never satisified, we always want state but we didn't exactly make it. Overall though, the year was great. We started off 5-0 and beat two real good teams in Dakota West and East St.Louis out of Illinois. We were East St.Louis' only loss this year, we beat them in Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. But our starting quarterback got hurt and the backup quarterback was also hurt at the beginning of the season. We had to get refocused and find somebody to fill in and take his place. But overall, it was a great season."
