Auburn collapses down the stretch
The opportunities were plenty but Auburn couldn't convert in the final four minutes against Florida, falling to the Gators 68-65 Wednesday night at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum.
The loss drops the Tigers to 10-6 overall and 0-2 in the SEC while Florida improved to 15-2 and 2-0 in the conference.
Rasheem Barrett nailed a 3-pointer with 3:56 left to give Auburn a 55-54 lead but Florida's Erving Walker quickly answered with a 3-point shot to put the Gators back on top.
For the next 3:26, Auburn literally fell to pieces.
The Tigers went 0-of-4 from the free throw line including senior Quantez Robertson, who missed the front end of two 1-and-1 free throw shots. AU also turned it over and went 0-of-3 from the floor including two missed 3-pointers by Barrett.
"That's a real bad feeling," Barrett said. "The worst feeling is that you gave it away. We had many opportunities and we should have taken the game away from them.
"Our mistakes, they countered with made baskets. We didn't. We had too many turnovers, (missed) free throws."
