In this week's edition of Postin' Up, we sit down with junior point guard Sek Henry. Known as one of Nebraska's team jokesters, Henry spent some time in his hometown of Los Angeles and competed in the Say No Classic tournament against some of the best young players on the West Coast. Oh yeah, he's also a huge fan of professional wrestling, especially Hulk Hogan.
HI: I hear you're one of the funny guys on the team. Why do you think that is?
SH: "Basically because I have a sense of humor. I'll be goofy a lot with people. Sometimes when I think it's getting too quiet or something, I just try to bring some smiles out and make people laugh."
HI: What all does "goofy" entail?
SH: "I'll probably say a joke to somebody that'll make other people laugh. You know, just joking around, or get people going so they can come back at me. Just joke around with people and try and have some fun."
HI:Tell me about this Say No Classic you played in this summer?
SH: "It was really fun. It was NBA rules, and I played against some really good players like (UCLA's) Darren Collison, (USC's) Taj Gibson, (USC's) DeMar DeRozan. It was fun. The games were pretty long, because the clock was always stopping. It seems like they were longer than college games. But it was a fun little league. There are actually two different leagues - there's one over in the Inland Empire (includes Southeast California cities Riverside, San Bernardino and Ontario), and there's one over in L.A. When the playoffs come, the best from there and best from L.A. all come together and play against each other."
HI:Playing in that tournament against that kind of competition had to help elevate your game, right?
SH: "I think so, because there's some really good guards, and these guards are good dribblers and shooters. They make you work on you're defense, because if you don't, you're going to get exposed. It's like the little motto they have there, 'Either expose or get exposed.' If you're out there and somebody's torturing you, you're getting exposed in front of all the fans and stuff, so you better be able to come back with something or lock up. You don't want to get exposed in front of everybody because it's like a reputation."
HI: Did you get to do any other fun California stuff while you were out there?
SH: "I got to go to the sand dunes, which is in Manhattan Beach. It's like a mountain of sand that goes all the way to the top, and you've got to walk to the top of it or run up it. It was cool."
HI: Seeing how you're an L.A. guy, I'm going to go ahead and assume that USC gets your vote for No. 1 in your football Top 25 poll?
SH: "USC is No. 1. USC, man, they're a very good football team. I think it would've been a better game if USC was in the National Championship game. Even Utah. Utah I a great team too, and most of the players they've got are California players. I mean, California is in the building."
HI:Playoff or bowls?
SH: "I like the bowls. There are a lot of bowls, though. I like the bowls, but I know that they would lose money if there was a playoff."
HI: So is it true? Do you really like professional wrestling?
SH: "I love wrestling. I love watching it. Recently I've been watching it, and it has changed. I mean, WWE hasn't been the same as it used to be. But I used to make impersonations of Hulk Hogan and stuff. I do like wrestling. I used to love watching The Rock and Stone Cold and Brett 'The Hitman' Heart, all that stuff."
HI: Al those guys are retired. Who's your favorite wrestler now?
SH: "I still like The Undertaker. I don't like Kane no more since he took the mask off. See, I still know the wrestlers. Then I watch TNA wrestling that comes on, and ECW that comes on on Tuesdays. So I still watch it."
HI:You know you forced me to do this. Can I get a Hulk Hogan impersonation?
SH: "(Laughs) Oh man
OK, hold on
'Come on brother! Let the Hulkamania run wild on you!' (more laughs) There. That's it."
HI: That was awesome.
SH: "I can't believe you just got me to do that."
