Saturday Basketball: Men and women in action
With football season officially done, how about a basketball doubleheader to get your mind off the gridiron and onto the hardwood?
That's what Oklahoma State fans have the opportunity for today, as both the men's and women's basketball teams play inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. First up at 2 p.m. are the Cowboys, who host Northwestern State. Then the ladies follow that up with a 4:30 p.m. tipoff against Texas-Pan American. Neither game is televised.
The men come into their game with a 9-3 record, after having beaten down Arkansas State by 23 points on Monday night. In that one, four Cowboys scored in double figures, led by Byron Eaton's 18. James Anderson had 16 and Obi Muonelo scored 15 and nabbed 14 rebounds. As a team, OSU shot 52 percent from the field, while limiting ASU to only 39 percent shooting.
They'll take on an NSU squad which is only 8-6 on the year and come to Stillwater committing 39 more turnovers a game than its opponents. But they also average 6.7 blocks a game. They're led by Devin White, who is scoring 12.5 points per game and bringing down 7.1 rebounds per game. Guard Damon Jones is averaging 11.7 ppg.
On the women's side, the No. 21 Cowgirls (9-2) come in riding a six-game winning streak. Their last outing was an 80-54 win over North Texas on Sunday. They face a Lady Broncos squad this evening that is 8-7 on the year. They're led by Teshay Winfrey, a 5-8 guard averaging 12.1 ppg and 6.2 rpg. On the Cowgirls' side, Andrea Riley is leading the way, putting up 21.5 ppg and 7.6 assists per game. Both Shaunte Smith and Tegan Cunningham are posting more than 12 ppg on the season.
