GoPowercat Q&A: Dalonte Hill
The man's work is no program secret. His recruiting ties are evident and the level of talent he's brought to Kansas State as of late speaks for itself. In fact, it's public knowledge that K-State associate head coach Dalonte Hill has been a major force behind every positive stride the program has taken in the past three seasons. GoPowercat.com chatted with the Wildcat assistant coach following his team's Monday practice about the past, present and future of K-State recruiting and what the future may hold for Hill himself.
Can you take me through K-State's courtship of (2009 freshmen) Wally Judge and [/db]Rodney McGruder[/db]? It didn't seem as if they looked too hard at any other schools.
Well, they looked at all the local schools. They looked at Maryland, Virginia and Pittsburgh. At that time, Wally wasn't as developed as Rodney, so he didn't have to experience all that other business. In recruiting Rodney, he had a rough growing up and just really wanted somebody he could trust. So me, being from that area and also being a part of that D.C. Assault (AAU) program, he knew he would be able to trust me.
How long have you known Rodney and Wally?
I've known Rodney since the ninth grade. I went up just to watch him play because he was in the organization. I didn't meet Wally until he was in 10th grade.
What can K-State fans reasonably expect from these guys next year? Are they both being looked at as players who can make an immediate impact?
I think Wally definitely has the chance to do that. He's a big, physical kid. To be honest, the high school game takes a lot away from him because he's playing against smaller kids. Rodney is going to have to come in and prove himself because we have older, experienced wings already in here. He's really going to have to fight for playing time.
I assume you've made him aware of that.
He knew going into this that he was going to have to develop and mature a lot. This weight room is going to be a big part of his transition to college basketball.
