BulldogBlitz.com The Mississippi State Bulldogs picked up a verbal commitment in their own backyard on Saturday afternoon.
Starkville Academy standout Johnathan McKenzie made his pledge to play for his hometown Bulldogs.
"It's a nice feeling," McKenzie said. "If I had gone some place else it would have been like an away game for my parents. I'm glad everything is over with and now I can finish up my senior year without any distractions."
McKenzie made the commitment after visiting with new head coach Dan Mullen at his office on Saturday.
"He seems like a very exciting person," McKenzie said. "He must be a good coach since he has Florida in the national championship game. I am glad to be a part of his program."
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound McKenzie is projected to play defensive end at the next level but could also play tight end if needed.
