Nation's top punter signs with MSU
The nation's top junior college punter will be playing in maroon and white next season.
Itawamba Community College punter Heath Hutchins signed a national letter of intent to play at Mississippi State on Wednesday morning.
"I feel the same right now but that's probably all going to change when I get down there in January," Hutchins said. "I'm feeling good right now. I'm just ready to get down there and ready for the spring game. I want to punt in the stadium and get a feel for it."
The first team JUCO All-American led the country averaging 46.1 yards per kick for the Indians and will now take his talents to the Southeastern Conference.
"I think playing in junior college is definitely going to help me," Hutchins said. "I know that my first game at ICC I was so nervous. My first punt I don't even think I took a step before I got it off. My confidence wasn't really high because I wonder why I was punting in JUCO. But now doing what I have done I feel like you could go ahead and put me on the Miami Dolphins. I'm ready for everything right now."
The 6-foor-3, 215-pounder from Saltillo, Miss., chose the Bulldogs over Southern Miss.
