Second half surge propels KU past UMKC
The outcome of KU's season opener against UMKC on Sunday night wasn't decided until late in the second half. The Jayhawks and Kangaroos were tied, 32-32, at the half and traded baskets for much of the second half. However, Bill Self's squad finally pulled away late in the contest. Minutes after the game, an upbeat Self talked about KU's performance. Sherron Collins scored a game-high 16 points, as Kansas defeated UMKC, 71-56.
The game couldn't have started out any better for Self's squad. Junior guard Sherron Collins opened up the contest with a three, and it looked as if the Jayhawks would roll past the Kangaroos. However, that simply wasn't the case.
