New look Jayhawks take court tonight
It's amazing how quickly things can change in a period of one year. A season ago, Bill Self and Kansas were expected to be one of the favorites to cut down the nets in San Antonio, and the Jayhawks did just that, as they slipped past the Memphis Tigers, 75-68, in overtime. Fast-forward to this season and the expectations aren't quite as high. Self has welcomed seven newcomers, five from the high school ranks, to a team that lost six players to the professional ranks, including four drafted in the NBA. With Washburn coming to Lawrence on Tuesday night, Self was quick to admit that his team isn't ready to play a game.
There is absolutely no question that much has changed since last season. Brandon Rush, Darrell Arthur, Mario Chalmers, Darnell Jackson, Russell Robinson and Sasha Kaun, the players most responsible for delivering a National Championship to Kansas for the first time since 1988, have graduated to the pro ranks.
