Slaughter has career day in loss
When Rod Smith, Auburn's leading receiver, went down with a hip injury in the first quarter Saturday against Ole Miss, the Tigers needed someone to step in and fill his shoes.
Sophomore Chris Slaughter obliged.
Slaughter, getting his first significant action of the season, had a career-high eight catches for 131 yards including catches of 42 and 37 yards in the Tigers' 17-7 defeat to the Rebels.
"It felt good," said Slaughter. "Rod, he's a big factor in this offense. I play behind Rod, and I'm capable of being a starter, too. I just waited for my opportunity and it came.
