Pegues shoulders responsibility for loss
Senior safety Derek Pegues could only watch in horror as the events of last Saturday unfolded.
While his Bulldog teammates were losing at Louisiana Tech, Pegues was 300 miles away at his home in Batesville surrounded by his family watching the game on television.
"It was tough the last minutes of the game," Pegues said. "I had to walk outside. I couldn't watch the end of the fourth quarter."
Pegues, Mississippi State's best football player according to head coach Sylvester Croom, was serving a one-game suspension for violating the school's class attendance policy back in the spring.
"I let down my teammates," Pegues said. "I was being selfish. I let down my teammates and let down the coaching staff. I'm going to put this behind us. When I come back, I'm going to do whatever I can to help this team win and get to the SEC Championship."
