Leading tacklers back at linebacker
The Mississippi State Bulldogs are fortunate to have their leading two tacklers back for another year of creating chaos for opposing offenses.
Seniors Jamar Chaney and Dominic Douglas led the Bulldog defense in stops last season at linebacker and welcome sophomore K.J. Wright into the fold this season.
"The expectations we set are high," Chaney said. "With two seniors and K.J. as a sophomore, we've all played in some big time SEC games. We're just going to go out there and play and lead this defense to dominate."
Chaney finished the year with 89 tackles followed by Douglas with 78. Wright tallied only seven stops a year ago but takes over at strong side linebacker for the departed Gabe O'Neal who finished third on the team in tackles last season with 74.
Chaney said the unit has been working mainly on it's technique heading into the season opener with Louisiana Tech. Chaney said the main focus has been on footwork and also reading keys.
"We've been working on the little things that you might overlook," Chaney said. "We just try to work on those and make sure when we get tired, we still have our technique to fall back on."
