Gray begins AU career with heavy heart
Most of Auburn's newcomers stepped onto the practice field for the first time Saturday with something to prove. A chip on their shoulder.
But for junior college transfer Raven Gray, the motivation to do well runs very deep.
Gray, who spent the past two seasons at Copiah-Lincoln Community College after failing to qualify out of high school, has dedicated the rest of his football career to older brother John Gray, who was shot and killed in their hometown of Enterprise, Ala., less than a year ago.
"I've had to struggle to get here and it means a lot to me," said Gray. "I lost my big brother (about eight) months ago and this is what he wanted, me to be here.
"I'm going to give 100 percent every time I come out here. Even in this heat and when I'm tired, I'm going 100 percent every time."
Gray says that his older brother got involved in an altercation with another man that escalated into a senseless killing. He's leaned on his faith to get him through the last several months.
