Wilkes has four favorites
Offensive guard Khalil Wilkes has been working hard with his teammates this summer in preparation for the fall campaign. He's learning to play another position along the offensive line, which will make him an even more valuable asset for the school he chooses.
The 6-foot-3, 285-pound guard from Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep has also said that four schools are standing out.
"Right now you could say I have high interest in Rutgers, Pitt, Stanford and Wake Forest," Wilkes said. "I'm mainly just working out with my team right now.
"It doesn't look like I'm going to be doing (camps) anymore. I actually went to Tennessee's camp. That went alright but I actually ended up getting hurt during the camp and missed a lot of it. That gave me a red light for camps. It was just a sprained joint in my big toe and I'm fine."
Wilkes and his St. Peter's Prep squad attended a 7-on-7 event at Rutgers University and he said they performed well. They plan on holding similar events at their own school but he is unsure of whether they will be attending any other tournaments.
"I'm working out at center right now," Wilkes said. "I'm going to be snapping some. Pretty much all the schools I've talked to have me on their board as a guard. This just means I can also play center if it's needed."
Wilkes had been planning to take trips to Stanford and Wake Forest but has since canceled those visits. That doesn't mean he won't be a busy man before his senior year.
"I'm keeping everything open at this point," he said. "I'm trying to take all my unofficial visits before my senior season begins. I'm trying to commit before my senior season. If I pick the right school I shouldn't take a lot of officials."
Wilkes holds offers from his four favorites in addition to schools like Boston College, UConn, Maryland, Michigan State, Nebraska, Tennessee, West Virginia and others.
