Last dance for Neitzel
HOUSTON - Drew Neitzel walked off the court at Reliant Stadium with his jersey pulled over his head to hide his tears after scoring just 6 points in his final game as a Spartan.
A 92-74 loss to Memphis in the regional semifinal was not the script that Neitzel envisioned as the final chapter in his career at Michigan State. But when the pain of a loss in the Sweet 16 subsides, Neitzel will be able to look at his Spartan career with pride and a sense of accomplishment.
No, Neitzel did not win a Big Ten championship. But the four-year Spartan starter singled-handedly kept Michigan State's run of tournament appearances in tact as a junior and was the catalyst for the growth shown by the Spartans down the stretch this season and one of the key figures in Michigan State's run to the Sweet 16 this season.
And even though Michigan State's loss to Memphis tore him up inside, Neitzel made one thing clear in post-game interviews. He has no regrets.
