McNeil earning his starting role
Mike McNeil knew his time was coming.
After playing in all 13 games as a backup safety and on special teams as true freshman last fall, McNeil knew expectations would be much higher going into his sophomore season.
With Eric Brock graduating and Aairon Savage moving from safety to cornerback, it's fallen on McNeil to step in and be a full-time starter.
"I didn't put any pressure on myself," said McNeil. "I just knew I had to come out here and get it done, no excuses. It was expected of me to come in and start anyway so it was time for me to step up."
New defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads likes how his young safety has responded to the challenge this spring.
