Video: Neitzel carries the Spartans into semis
INDIANAPOLIS - Michigan State senior captain Drew Neitzel scored 28 points to lead his team past Ohio State in a rematch of a game the Spartans lost just a few days earlier in Columbus.
"It was a tough game last weekend," explained Neitzel. "And like I said, it worked out funny how we played in the last game and the first game of the tournament. And as a player you gotta forget about that.
"And I watched the film. Looked at myself in the mirror and said what do I gotta do differently. I just wanted to be more aggressive. And I got a chance to redeem myself, and not only myself but this team got a chance to redeem ourselves and we took advantage of the opportunity."
With his 28 points, Neitzel set a new Spartan scoring record for a Big Ten Tournament game.
"This is the best that I've felt," said Neitzel. "I just wanted to come out aggressive. I think
That feat will not be easy to duplicate against Wisconsing gaurd Michael Flowers who limited Michigan's leading scorer Manny Harris to jut 4 points in a game in which the Wolverine's scored just 34 points against Wisconsin's defense.
Neitzel has a lot more experience in the Big Ten wars than Harris and the Spartan senior is looking forward to facing the Big Ten regular season champs in the Big Ten tournament semifinals.
"It is going to be a big game just because we're in the semifinals and we are trying to get to Sunday," explained Neitzel.
"Wisconsin is playing great right now and we get another chance at them. It's not too often in your career or a season that you get a chance to face a team that has beaten you."
