Kevin Love talks tourney
In part two UCLA freshman center and Pac 10 Player of the Year, Kevin Love is interviewed by the print media beat writers. Besides being Pac 10 Player of the Year, he also Pac 10 frosh of the year and he made the all-Pac 10 defensive team as well and that was something that Love was also very proud of.
You guys have won the regular season title and probably the No. 1 seed in the West, what is there to gain from the Pac 10 tournament?
Love: "I guess just having the same flow and stay into a rhythm winning games. We don't want another let up and for people to say we're not that good a team come March.
"We will probably be a No. 1 seed no matter what happens, but we have bigger goals as a team. We want to win the Pac 10 championship and the tournament.
Is there any benefit to resting?
Love: "For me personally, and I think for Coach Ben Howland and everybody else, I just don't want to lose. I don't want that letup at the end of the day and cut the nets down on Saturday.
"That would be nice and then hopefully we will play six more games and then we will be tearing the nets down in San Antonio. I'm not trying to get too far ahead of myself, but that would be nice.
Do you need a second guy to start making threes consistently to be able to do any damage in this thing (NCAA Tournament)?
Love: "We're going to have to. You know Darren Collison has been very consistent and I think myself, Josh Shipp, and Russell Westbrook all need to step up.
"Even Luc Richard Mbah a Moute needs to step up and hit some threes because if people are going to keep packing it in we need to be able to step up and hit those shots.
"I think that's going to be a focal point this week and next week in practice and hey, we have to start knocking them down. After looking at the stat sheet on Saturday it wasn't too pretty.
