UGA's put together a strong '08 class
The Dawgs have been involved in many close games this season and seem to be just a player or two away from winning the big one. Well, could that missing piece come in the class of 2008? Georgia signed three in the early period back in November and we caught up with Basketball Recruiting Analyst Justin Young to see what he said about this class.
The highest rated signee in this class if Howard Thompkins out of Norcross (Ga.) - Wesleyan. The 6-foot-8 forward is the number 30 ranked player in the country and he chose the Dawgs over Florida and some other top programs last fall.
"With Thompkins, they may have the potential Mr. Georgia basketball," said Young. "He is that kind of player and he is doing a great job at dominating on both sides of the court. After coming back from a year at Oak Hill, he has been unstoppable here in Georgia."
"I saw him play against Tucker at the Martin Luther King Classic and it was probably the best I have ever seen him play. He is a high skilled big guy - he can play the high post, he can play down low and he will really go well with a guy like Jeremy Price at Georgia."
Playing early and contributing as a freshman is something Thompkins should do.
"Howard is a guy that could play a couple of different positions and I think he is a guy that will come in and help out right away. He is every bit as good as advertised."
"After this year at Georgia, they need a shot in the arm and he is about as good as you are going to get out of Georgia. He will likely come in and help right away."
Is he a player that could bolt early for the professional level?
"He is looking for a quick route to the NBA too, so he is coming in with the attitude not only to produce, but to come in and win big to put his fingerprint on the program."
Thompkins may the be the man most talk about in this, but the speedy point guard out of Kennesaw (Ga.) - North Cobb Christian is expected to do some things in Athens too.
"Howard is the key guy, but Dustin Ware is another kid that I have known and covered for a long time and I don't know if I have ever met or encountered a kid that is as competitive as he is. He is a just a fiery guy and he is not scared to get out there and compete against anybody."
