2009 Names to know: Defense
The ink is hardly even dry on the class of 2008 and Mark Dantonio and his staff are already looking ahead to the class of 2009. Spartanmag.com takes an early look at who are some of the prospects that could become household names to fans of Michigan state fans
The defensive line prospects may not be as deep as previous years, but Campbell is one of the nations best. He made a commitment to Michigan and Lloyd Carr last year. The Spartans are still recruiting Campbell, but getting Cass Tech kids has proven to be a difficult task for the Spartans.
William Campbell of Detroit Cass Tech High School
Aaron McCord of Detroit Crockett High School
Mitch Kessell of Birmingham Seaholm High School
Lots of familiar names in this group. Norman is viewed by many one of the top linebacker prospects to come out of Detroit in several years. Look fo rhim to be a 4-star prospect. The other prospects have brothers playing at Iowa, Michigan State and Michigan respectively.

Justin Semmes of Orchard Lake Saint Mary's
Chad Setterbo of Spring Lake High School
Gabe Helmuth of Saline High School
Some very athletic prospects are on this list. The Spartans addressed some concerns in the secondary with the class of 2008, but they still need to keep the talent flowing. All of the players below come from solid programs that routinely have talent. Boss could project on offense as well.

The Spartans did not sign a kicker for the class of 2008 or 2007. They did get a talented walk-on this year, Dan Conroy, but will certainly keep their eyes open.
