Auburn rally falls short against UK
A furious Auburn rally came up short as Kentucky held on for a 66-63 win over the Tigers Wednesday night at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum.
The Wildcats appeared to be in control with a 6-point lead with 45 seconds left but Rasheem Barrett nailed a 3-pointer to cut it to 64-61 at the 29 seconds mark. DeWayne Reed stole the ball away from UK guard Joe Crawford after the inbound pass and put in a layup to get AU within one point with 23 seconds left.
After Ramon Harris made 1-of-2 free throws, AU had possession with 14 seconds remaining. Reed took the inbound pass, ran the clock down dribbling up the court and then misfired on a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 3 seconds left.
"We made a heck of a comeback at the end and just fell a little bit short,"
said AU head coach Jeff Lebo. "We put ourselves in position to win the game and just couldn't do it."
Lebo said the final shot was designed for Reed.
