Newcomers already contributing to Cats
In reality it was only one semester. Just 11 games of the season were missed. But the wait for the arrival of recruits Dominique Sutton and Jamar Samuels drew out like a hot August day for Kansas State fans. There was certainly plenty of people sweating the pair's hopeful arrival at K-State.
Yes, K-State signed the best basketball recruiting class in the nation last year, and it has been hard to deny the greatness based on the play of Michael Beasley alone. Still, with Sutton and Samuels attending class this past fall at Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Mass., instead of in Manhattan, Kan., the recruiting class of eight only numbered six.
Finally, with Christmas closing in, the NCAA Clearinghouse signed off on the class both players took at Notre Dame Prep as sufficient to make them eligible. The long wait was over, and the pair arrived at K-State on Dec. 26 and began practicing with Coach Frank Martin's Wildcats that evening.
"They are two long, athletic forwards who bring toughness and athleticism and great rebounding. They are two more guys who can help us," Martin said.
