Slow start dooms Tigers against WVU
Auburn entered Wednesday night's showdown against West Virginia with a lot of confidence riding a four-game winning streak. But they walked out of the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center with an entirely different attitude after an 88-59 whipping by the Mountaineers in the Big East/SEC Invitational.
West Virginia (6-1), who leads the nation in scoring margin, effectively put this one away in the opening minutes. West Virginia started the game with a 28-6 spurt over the first 12 minutes and didn't allow the Tigers to muster much of a threat after that.
"They just dominated us from the beginning," said AU head coach Jeff Lebo. "For the first time all year I really thought we looked fatigued and tired. We didn't have the energy that we displayed in other games."
