Will early wins set tone for the season?
The Red Storm will take wins any way they can get them, but Tuesday night's 76-49 triumph over Sacred Heart was a much needed comfortable victory.
The win was a good way to go into the Thanksgiving break and keep things on a positive for Norm Roberts' team.
Once again the young guys stepped up and came to play. Freshman D.J. Kennedy played major minutes with Anthony Mason Jr. out with an ankle injury.
Kennedy didn't disappoint, attacking the glass and getting some easy baskets. The combination of Kennedy and Justin Burrell was too much for an overmatched Pioneers frontline.
Burrell did what he wanted to on his way to a double-double.
If the forwards were good, the guards were great. Eugene Lawrence and Larry Wright shot the ball effectively and never really looked to be rattled by what the Pioneers were doing.
Lawrence ended the night with a team high 17 points and didn't miss a shot. Wright missed only three of his attempts.
