Notebook: Bama loss won't distract Tigers
Most everybody expected Alabama to enter the Iron Bowl with a record equal to Auburn's at 7-4. But Louisiana-Monroe had other ideas, handing the Tide (6-5) another embarrassing home loss just a week before their in-state battle with the Tigers.
But even with the loss, AU head coach Tommy Tuberville said Sunday he won't need to remind his team to take the Alabama game very seriously.
"I think if you have to have that conversation, then you've got a team that's really out of touch with what's going on," said Tuberville. "We talk about this game every week of the year, almost every day in the summer. Our guys know the importance of it, not only to them and the school but also to the fans and alumni. Alabama knows the same thing.
"Both teams are going to play as hard as they can, try to play as well as they can, and let the best team win."
Tuberville also pointed out that Auburn is coming off one of its worst losses of the season. While the Tide will have to put the Louisiana-Monroe loss behind them quickly, AU's had a week to mull over the Georgia defeat.
