Bearcats Bounce Catamounts
CINCINNATI- After a disappointing loss in the home opener, the University of Cincinnati Bearcats bounced back in their second game, winning a thriller against Western Carlolina 66-64.
Marvin Gentry carried the Bearcats down the stretch, drilling three 3-pointers in the last five minutes of the game, including one with 40 seconds to go that put the Bearcats up 64-61. Gentry finished with 19 points on 6-8 shooting including 4-5 from beyond the arc.
With 23 seconds to go in the game and the score tied at 64, the Bearcats spread the court out for Deonta Vaughn who took his man off the dribble, got into the lane and then found Marcus Sikes streaking across the baseline for the game winning lay-up.
"I was happy for Deonta," said Cronin after the game. "He couldn't get an open shot to go down, which is unlike him, but he kept battling and he made a great pass late to Marcus Sikes for the lay-up."
