Boeheim: Close win a tremendous experience
Syracuse won its first exhibition game Sunday afternoon against division II St. Rose, but not by much. The Orange hung on to win 80-71 in the first exhibition game of the season in front of more than 8,000 fans in the Carrier Dome.
In a game many expected to be a blowout, the Orange found themselves trailing by one with as few as five minutes remaining.
But Head Coach Jim Boeheim thinks the close game will pay dividends.
"I thought this was a tremendous experience," Boeheim said after the win. "I thought St. Rose really did a tremendous job tonight. They really moved the ball probably as well as anybody we'll play."
Boeheim gave his younger players a chance to get used to live game action in the Carrier Dome on Sunday, preparing them for tougher contests that lie ahead.
"We have a lot of guys trying to figure out what they can do and what they can't and overall it was a good experience for us," Boeheim said.
