Boilermaker Sunday notebook
Senior offensive guard Jordan Grimes injured his ankle in the second quarter at Penn State and is likely to miss Purdue's tilt with Michigan State.
Coach Joe Tiller said Sunday that Grimes will undergo an MRI, which will paint a better picture of his status. Initial X-rays came back clean, Tiller said.
The Penn State game was Grimes' 36th consecutive start.
In his absence, redshirt freshman Justin Pierce played every offensive snap from there.
"He held up OK," Tiller said of the 6-foot-4, 330-plus-pound Pierce, who's played on the field goal/PAT team the past couple weeks. "
He was better than fine, actually."
Had Pierce struggled, Tiller said Purdue would have moved over backup left guard Cory Benton, but that wasn't necessary.
