Off and running
COLUMBUS - Wednesday night's game with Ashland may not count in the record book but it went a long way in defining what the 2007-08 Buckeyes might look like. After coming out of the blocks slow and trailing at the first television timeout the deeper and more physically gifted Buckeyes pulled away 88-59.
But this game was not about the stats and served as an opportunity not only for the fans but for the coaches to take inventory of what they have to work with having so many young players on the roster.
"I thought we got off to a little bit of a slow start," head coach Thad Matta said. "The second group really came in and ignited us especially on defense."
With seven players logging their first minutes in an Ohio State uniform there were some nervous players getting ready for the game.
"I am not even going to lie," forward Dallas Lauderdale said. "I had butterflies the first time but I am alright now."
But even with the butterflies it has been a long time coming for most of these players especially growing up in the state of Ohio and having a life long dream to play in the Scarlet and Gray.
