Wanamaker provides option at the 1 and the 2
On media day earlier this month, Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon said that he would try all four of his guards at the point.
"I don't think we have ever done that before," Dixon said.
Even if the experiment only plays out in the preseason, Levance Fields, Ronald Ramon, Brad Wanamaker, and Keith Benjamin will all spend some practice time at point guard.
Last year Fields (5' 10) started every game at the point while Ramonplayed both guard spots. Fields averaged 8.0 points per game and 4.56 assists per game.
In the Blue-Gold scrimmage on Sunday, Fields gave every indication he not only will hold on to the starting point guard position but perhaps even take his game up a notch. Fields made 9-of-18 shots including 5-of-11 from three-point range, playing 30 minutes and dishing out 8 assists for the Gold team. Ramon played 30 minutes for the Blue team and had 6 assists.
Wanamaker is the newcomer in the group, and he can provide a versatility at the guard spots.
