Competition high in backfield
Heading into spring practice and fall camp, the battle for the starting job at running back at Alabama was among the hottest topics when it came to Crimson Tide football. Six games into Nick Saban's first season at UA, the battle in the backfield continues.
After bursting onto the scene with an impressive opening week performance redshirt freshman Terry Grant appeared to be the Tide's next great star tailback. But as the season went on, Grant's share of the carries began to drop off from at least 20 in the Tide's first two conference games to fewer than 10 in the Florida State and Houston games.
