First games show stars
PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The 2007 Arkansas high school football season opened Monday night in Pine Bluff at UAPB's Golden Lion Stadium with a pair of games with several Division I prospects on display.
In the opener, Little Rock Central Arkansas Christian defeated Pine Bluff Dollarway 17-14 with USC-bound Joe Adams saving the game by intercepting a pass in his own end zone and returning it out late in the game. In the second game, Warren blew past Sheridan 48-14 in a very impressive display of offensive weapons.
Joe Adams, WR/CB, 6-0, 175, Sr. CAC- Caught 3 passes for 39 yards at receiver and had 6 carries for 0 yards rushing. Intercepted a pass late in the game to preserve the win. Had several tackles on defense and two touchdown-saving tackles. In this game, he looked much better on defense than offense. Committed to USC last Friday night.
Jess Grandy, Ath, 6-0, 170, Jr., Dollarway- Played quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back and almost led his team to an upset over CAC. He had 44-yard touchdown pass with 39.3 seconds remaining in the first half to give his team a 14-7 lead at intermission. Guarded Adams much of the night. Also recovered a fumble as well as many other big plays. Keep an eye on this Class of 2009 prospect.
Jasper Lee, LB-RB, 6-0, 210, Jr, CAC- Rushed for 44 yards on 5 carries and had 9 tackles on defense, including 4 unassisted. Has a chance to be highly recruited next year. Bruising runner on offense, but might be a linebacker in college. Class of 2009 prospect.
