Who'll make an early impact on the DL?
Georgia took a big hit on the edge when they lost Quentin Moses and Charles Johnson to the NFL in April. They return the two starters in the middle, but could a newcomer be close to taking one of those positions? We break down the defensive front inside and talk about what 2007 signees could make an impact.
Two big holes immediately opened up when the Dawgs lost Moses and Johnson at defensive end. Both made huge impacts for Georgia during their careers and they are now getting paid well in the NFL.
Who will take over for those two may be the biggest question, there has been some shifting in the middle as well. Kade Weston and Jeff Owens started for the Dawgs last year, but a couple junior college signees may be challenging them for their spot before the Oklahoma State game.
Going into fall camp, it looked like Marcus Howard and Roderick Battle would take over at the end spots and that still seems to be the case, but the defensive tackle position has a couple new guys that are pushing the old ones. We will take a look at the new names across the defensive line and pick out the ones that we feel will make an early impact.
In 2007, Georgia signed four defensive linemen and one of them has made the move to outside linebacker. The Dawgs inked two from Georgia Military College in Jarius Wynn and Corvey Irvin. Wynn came in as a defensive end and Irvin as a defensive tackle. Out of the high school ranks, UGA signed two ends in Neland Ball and Justin Houston.
