Norton looks across the line and beyond
The battle for carries at running back remains entrenched in the media spotlight, but a more traditional battle is being waged in practice.
Matching the tailback position in talent and depth, USC's linebacker corps. proudly carry the label of nemesis. After Thursday's scrimmage, coach Ken Norton Jr. discussed containing the Trojans' tailback horde in practice.
"They're all unique, and each one of them brings something different to the line-up," said Norton. "Some guys are the scat-back types, some guys are better in short-yardage, and others are a combination of the two.
"We can't worry about them individually because we won't know how to play our defense. What we focus on is the situation, down-and-distance and what personnel grouping is in. All of the running backs are pretty good and we're lucky to have such a collection of guys."
