Aggies hit the field in full pads
Texas A&M took to the practice fields Friday morning for the first time in full pads in the McFerrin Athletic Center and the outdoor fields next door. The Aggies set aside installation of the playbook in order for a day of absorption and getting used to being in pads.
Overall the day was a good day, but head coach Dennis Franchione is already starting to get down to the nitty gritty. That's what happens when you perform well ahead of expectations during the first week of August camp.
"It was a good practice. I'd like to see us take a few more steps as far as cleaning up little things, persist a little bit as we go through these days," Franchione said. "We didn't really have a lot of installation today. We kind of left this day, the first days in pads, as an absorption day, and we had good work all the way around, good physicalness and some nice plays but there are still some things to clean up."
Franchione did say that a few nicks and bruises have occurred during the first week, but nothing serious on the field. Two true freshmen, however, will be seeing a little more of the sideline before getting back onto the field.
"Brandon Joiner had a little hernia surgery this morning, and he'll be out a little while with that. We've had some bumps and bruises," Franchione said. "Charles Young has had a foot sprain, but other than that nothing has kept anyone out much."
