Johnson ready for competition at safety
With fall camp less than a week away, senior starting safety Kelin Johnson finds himself in an unusual circumstance. Johnson is the starting strong safety for the Georgia Bulldogs and one of only two senior starters on the defense that have prior starting experience. Head Coach Mark Richt is relying on Johnson and fellow senior Brandon Miller to be the leaders of the 2007 defense, but there may be one problem for Johnson, he has to hold onto his starting job.
Coach Richt reiterated Johnson's status as a starter during the SEC Media Days teleconference on Friday saying, "at safety, Kelin Johnson and C.J. Byrd are slated to be our starters. Kelin is the only one that has starting experience as a game to game starter. Kelin is the only really returning starter in our secondary."
