Illinois shooter lands IU offer
If betting was available in Vegas on the guy most likely to knock down
seven threes in a game, the smart money would have been on Matt Roth from
Washington (Community HS), Illinois. Playing with the loaded Indiana
Elite/Team Indiana squad led this week by the likes of Tyler Zeller and Bud
Mackey, the 6-foot-3, 175-pound Roth knocked down seven trifectas Monday night
in a pool game win over the Playaz Gold team.
The reason Roth would have been the smart money bet is the fact that his high
school shooting numbers from his junior season are simply outstanding. In
29 games he knocked down 143 three-pointers, just three shy of breaking the
Illinois state record. And it is not like he just takes a bunch of threes
because his beyond the arc shooting percentage exceeded 48%. In one game
for Washington he knocked down 12 treys.
On Monday night Roth was feeling it so much in the game that many of his
attempts were a good five feet or more behind the three-point line.
