Richard Pitino contacts 2009 five-star prospect
Richard Pitino has wasted no time on the recruiting trail as the newest assistant on the University of Louisville basketball staff. Pitino contacted five-star prospect Xavier Henry last week to let him know of the Cardinals' interest.
Just last week, Henry told Rivals.com that the U of L coaching staff was planning to come watch him play, and it appeared as if they might be down within days of that interview. "They haven't come down yet," the 6-foot-6 shooting guard told Cardinalsports.com Wednesday night. "They called and they told me in a couple of weeks they were coming down."
Henry, who is rated as the No. 9 prospect in the class of 2009, was surprised to speak a Pitino who wasn't the head coach at U of L. "I've only talked to him once over the phone, but he seemed like he's a pretty nice guy," Henry added. "He knew everything about the university and he could answer all my questions and everything."
Is the talented prospect interested in hearing more from the Cards? "Yes, sir, I am interested in them because they let you know what you're getting into," he answered. "They let me know how everything was at college. They let me know how the living situations would be and how I would go to class and everything like that. They just said it would be stronger and quicker at the next level, and they kept talking about that."
Henry said he is pretty much wide open at this point in the recruiting process, and he doesn't plan on making a decision "for awhile."
While Louisville didn't make it down for a visit last week, North Carolina and Ohio State did. "Ohio State talked to me about how they are only going to have one scholarship from the class of 2009 so they are waiting to get the best player they can get," Henry mentioned.
