QB competition continues between Keller and Ganz
The 54,288 fans who attended Nebraska's spring game Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium can understand why NU coaches are calling the competition for the Huskers' starting quarterback job encouraging, yet too close to call.
Senior Sam Keller and junior Joe Ganz shared time quarterbacking the No. 1 offense and both looked impressive while leading the Red team to a 38-0 win over the White squad.
"We felt very good about how Sam Keller and Joe Ganz performed," Nebraska coach Bill Callahan said. "You look at some of the numbers they posted today and it's pretty impressive."
Alternating time under center, Keller and Ganz guided the No. 1 offense to touchdown drives on the Red team's first four offensive possessions of the game against the No. 2 defense. Keller finished the game completing 10-of-13 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown while Ganz connected on 11-of-18 attempts for 157 yards and a TD. Ganz also ran 10 yards for a score. Neither quarterback was intercepted.
Keller and Ganz were both pleased with their respective performances on Saturday and both acknowledged that the competition for the No.1 starting job will continue into fall camp.
