Holt progressing mentally, physically
There's little doubt, if any, that the wide receiver position will be one of the strengths of the Nebraska football team in 2007.
With a balanced mix of experienced veterans and promising underclassmen, Nebraska has its deepest corps of receivers since the Bill Callahan era began in 2004.
Maurice Purify, Terrance Nunn, Nate Swift, Todd Peterson, Frantz Hardy and Dan Erickson, who have all played instrumental roles in the success of Nebraska's West Coast Offense over the past two seasons, provide the Huskers with experience and leadership at the wide-out positions. Add young up-and-comers Menelik Holt, Chris Brooks and Will Henry to the mix and the Huskers receiver cupboard appears to be well stocked.
"Really, I think everyone can play," Holt said after a recent spring practice session, "When Todd gets into the games, Todd make some great plays. When Nate gets into the game, he makes great plays. Everyone can see what Mo and Terrance can do. Then some of us younger guys are determined, fighting for a spot. That's what we're all doing. We're all competitive and we're all just making each other better."
