2009 and 2010 classes are looking bright
The young names marking the future of Minnesota basketball are starting to make a presence at the varsity level and no underclassmen is making a bigger splash then DeLaSalle's Royce White, a 6-foot-6 forward. The big freshman name out there is Sibley's Jake Kreuser plus there are several other sophs and frosh you may want to take note of plus a couple Mayo juniors.
Before we get to the younger kids we must mention a pair of southern Minnesota kids with a bright future. Rochester Mayo's program has been down for some time but that is about to change. The Spartans are off to a .500 hard start but their best days are ahead as they learn to play together. Coach Shaun Lang has a pair of players that are being looked at by division one schools.
Junior small forward Jordan Hicks is a 6-foot-6 small forward who is a good athlete with a decent build. Hicks has a very nice jumpshot that he can square up and hit from beyond the arc, he can penetrate and pull-up from mid range and he runs the floor well finishing above the rim. Hicks is a true wing as he plays on the outside looking for his shot off of creation from his teammates or off the dribble for himself. The three schools that have offered are Illinois State, Wisconsin-Green bay and Bradley. In a recent loss to Tartan, Illinois State assistant Brian Barone was in attendance to watch Hicks.
Six-foot-seven power forward Lucas Kuipers is a strong player who plays all around the floor but mainly competes on the block looking to score inside for Mayo. Kiepers handled the ball some and even brought it up the floor a couple times. Lucas effectively shot a three as he does have a decent shooting touch and on the block Kiepers hits the jump hook very effectively one way and spots up equally as effective when turning the other way. Division one schools are also looking at Kuipers and he has offers already from Wright State and Albany of New York.
