Xavier spoils a homecoming
CINCINNATI - This was not a happy homecoming for Bob Huggins. Xavier used a 14-0 run late in the first half to take control of Wednesday night's game against Kansas State and never looked back, spoiling Huggins' return to Cincinnati in the process. Mistakes plagued the Wildcats throughout the evening, as they fell 76-66 to the Musketeers at a U.S. Bank Arena split evenly between Xavier followers and Wildcat/Huggins fans.
A Bill Walker basket with 8:18 left in the first half gave the Wildcats (10-4) a 22-18 edge, but K-State wouldn't score for the next five minutes as XU (10-4) rattled off 14 straight points to take a 10-point lead.
The Wildcats rarely had the lead under double digits the rest of the contest and trailed by as many as 17 on their way to seeing their six-game winning streak snapped.
"The guys we have to have score didn't score tonight. It's hard when Dave (Hoskins) gets into foul trouble for us," Huggins said. "We didn't have everybody hold up their end of the deal, and we're not good enough to overcome that."
