Davis shines against top-ranked Oak Hill
With a starting lineup that enjoys the luxury of five Division I-caliber players, Oak Hill Academy showed Saturday at the University of Richmond's Robins Center why it might possess America's best high school basketball team. The Warriors also got a glimpse of what happens when they play a team with somewhat equal talent.
Nolan Smith scored a game-high 24 points to lead Oak Hill to a 71-58 victory against Benedictine in the main event of Slamfest VI. The Duke University-bound senior also added five steals in the win, his team's 13th consecutive to start the season.
However, a lot of the pre-game buzz had as much to do with Benedictine's junior standout Ed Davis, who is UVa's top target in the class of 2008, as it did with vaunted Oak Hill.
One could call the 6-foot-9, 210-pound Davis "The Light," much the way Kevin Garnett became "The Big Ticket" and Allen Iverson "The Answer."
