Auburn set to host No. 2 Pittsburgh
Auburn's sophomores haven't forgotten the last time they saw the Pittsburgh Panthers.
Rasheem Barrett, Korvotney Barber, Quantez Robertson and Josh Dollard were freshmen when the Tigers traveled to Pittsburgh last season.
The result weren't pretty: A 78-41 Pitt win. The Panthers led 71-23 with 7:47 to play, but the score was ugly long before that. AU went scoreless for almost 11 minutes in the first half; Pitt scored 22 points over that stretch.
"We had 4 points for like 10 minutes," recalled Barber, AU's leading scorer this season. "I was like, 'Man, something's wrong.'"
Sunday, Auburn's sophomores have a chance to ease the painful memories of that loss. The Tigers host No. 2 Pitt in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum at 2 p.m. It's easily the biggest nonconference game of the Lebo era.
AU hasn't played such a highly ranked team in Beard-Eaves since 1969.
Auburn's players know what's at stake.
