Aggies long for Pompey's return
The Texas A&M men's basketball team started its season last Friday without one of their most prominent players, even if it doesn't show up on the stat sheet.
Senior forward Marlon Pompey joins only senior guard Acie Law as players that were on the pre-Billy Gillispie team that finished 0-16 in Big 12 conference play three season ago.
Although Law is the one getting all the accolades in the national media, Pompey has improved just as much as Law has with the exception that his improvements aren't in the scoring column.
Yet Pompey has become a mainstay in the Aggies' starting lineup the past two seasons, and he will still be starting if it wasn't for a fractured foot that Gillispie said Friday will keep him our 4-6 weeks.
"He's our best defensive player, and you hate lose him," Gillispie said. "Hopefully he'll be back quickly and regain his health very quickly. He's been our best leader here recently. He's our best defensive player. He does so much that nobody really has any idea what he's doing, and so it really greatly affects us."
