The case of the missing Slaton--what went down
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--At some point on Thursday night, West Virginia running back Steve Slaton tweaked the funny bone in his left wrist.
It could have come late in the second quarter when Louisville outscored the Mountaineers 13-7 or perhaps it came early in a third quarter, which found WVU outscored 14-7. Whatever, it hurt.
In fact, "hurt" is what Slaton was, although he carried 18 times for 156 yards in a 44-34 loss. His two fumbles to start the second half, meek pass defense and faulty special teams play may have cost the Mountaineers (7-1 overall, 2-1 Big East) a shot at the national title, though they can still win the league based on what happens with the Cardinals (8-0, 3-0) and equally undefeated Rutgers.
