Texas to tip-off the 2006-07 season
The Texas Longhorns are set to tip-off their 2006-07 season Tuesday night in the Frank Erwin Center against Lenoir-Rhyne of Hickory, N.C. That means it will be the first glimpse at the very talented freshman class made up of Kevin Durant, D.J. Augustin, Damion James, Matt Hill, Harrison Smith, Justin Mason and Dexter Pittman.
The Longhorns have played exhibition games against Rick Barnes' alma mater each of the last two seasons. Last year Texas beat Lenoir-Rhyne 97-36 and the Horns won easily in 2004, 92-47.
This year, both exhibition games are free to fans with open seating. Players and coaches will be on hand to meet fans and sign autographs after the game on Tuesday night.
The 2006-07 Longhorns are made up of senior Craig Winder, junior J.D. Lewis, sophomores A.J. Abrams and Connor Atchley and the seven freshman that comprised the top 2006 recruiting classes. Junior transfer walk-on Ian Mooney was awarded a scholarship for the 2006-07 season giving Texas 12 scholarship players.
What to look for?
It will be the first live action for a lot of excited freshman that are wearing the Longhorn uniform for the first time. With that comes some nerves, even against an exhibition opponent. It will be the first time for many Longhorn fans to get an up close look at the headliner of the class, Durant.
